Abel Tasman herdenking Nieuw-Zeeland van 'Nationaal Belang'
Four days of activities are planned for December as the main commemoration of the 375th anniversary of the first encounter between Maori and Dutch explorer Abel Janszoon Tasman. First Encounter 375 Planning Group convener Penny Griffith said the four-day programme, to be held at Golden Bay from December 16 to 19, would be open to the public. Griffith last week told Tasman district councillors the programme would interest people from the community, the wider Nelson-Tasman region and other parts of New Zealand. "It's not really a Golden Bay event; it's an event of national importance," she said.
