Opening Oranjehof

Foxton’s much anticipated tourism and community services centre, Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom, is set to open its doors on Saturday 18 November 2017.

Translating to mean ‘The New Stream” in both Māori and Dutch, Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom originated from the aspirations of two Trusts representing local Iwi and the national Dutch community. Later the District Council purchased the building and joined in partnership with the Trusts.

The Opening celebrations include:

Dawn - Tānga o te Kawa Ceremony 
- Karakia, Whaikōrero, Waiata tawhito, Kai

10am - Day Ceremony 
- Pōwhiri
- Addresses from the 3 partners
- Unveiling of the plaque 
- Unveiling of Abel Tasman Tableau
- Raising of the 3 partner flags

12pm – 3pm - Community Festival
- Live performances - including Kapa haka and Dutch Dancers
- Food Trucks
- Children’s area with Bouncy castles and activities
- Foxton Horse Drawn Tram
- Community stalls
- Pool Party, Foxton Pools
